(1) Positive Statement

What are you most proud of in your 2-Hour Presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
In my senior project I'm most proud of how I slowly but surely came out of my comfort zone and started talking to new people and started talking more and I'm proud of myself for almost perfecting my public speaking skills. I'm proud these accomplishments because before the senior project I would just talk to my select few friends now I talk to everyone, and when talking I'm not afraid to speak out to students during presentations.

(2) Questions to Consider

a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your 2-Hour Presentation (self-assessment)?

AE       (P)          AP       CR       NC

I would give myself a (P)
b.     What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)?
I would give myself overall a (P) I say this because even though I struggled here and there I improved, I tried my best at all the components.

AE       (P)          AP       CR       NC

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?
I made new connections, spread awareness, I learned a lot, and most of all I enjoyed what I did.

(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would have you done differently to improve your senior project if you could go back in time?
I would have not been so nervous during exit interviews because of this i got a lower grade.

(5) Finding Value

How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?  The senior project was helpful to me in my future endeavors because through this experience I have made new connections in the early childhood field and job experience

What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
The most important thing I have learned from this is experience is to have patients, how much dedication you must have to be a preschool teacher, and how to effectively communicate with kids. This is important because knowing this when

I step into this field after college I will advantage over others that want to be in the field.

  Applied
How has what you’ve done helped you to answer your EQ?  Please explain.

What I have done has helped me answer my E.Q because in the start of my senior project   I did not know an answer to my E.Q, after mentoring in both places I can say I have an answer to my E.Q and have more knowledge than I did in the beginning.

Blog 24 Exit Interview Questions

Exit Interview Questions

  1. What is your essential question? What is the best answer to your question and why? My essential question is How can a Preschool program best help a child prepare for Kindergarten? The best answer to my question is communication, this is my best answer because you have to stay in constant communication with the student, the family and Kindergarten teacher since the Kindergarten teacher notifies the preschool teacher on what the child should know when entering Kindergarten.
  2. What process did you take to arrive at this answer? I arrived at this answer with the help of mentor Mrs. Caroline when doing my third interview.
  3. What problems did you face? How did you resolve them? The problems I faced was finding things to do for my IC#2 my original plan was to go and take a class at Mt. Sac or P.C.C but due to my grade point average I was not allowed to. To solve this problem I started doing mentorship again but with a new preschool.
  4. What are the two most significant sources you used to answer you essential question and why? The two most significant sources I have would be my mentorship at both places and the HighScope Perry Project, these are my most significant sources because with mentorship I had the opportunity to do hands on learning and teach a preschool class. For the article it really gave me insight to how you can help at risk youth and change their life completely just by enrolling them in preschool.
  5. What is your product and why? My product is a skills I l acquired which is how to better communicate with children, this is my product because before this experience when dealing with children I was not the best of communicators, you can not talk to a child like their an adult  you have to use short concise words. After learning this I tried it at my mentorship it worked and at the same time opened up a two way street for communication between the child and I.

I Emani Lloyd affirm that I have completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
(b) Cite your source regarding who or what article or book helped you complete the independent component
Ms. Genesis Rodriguez (Woodbury Preschool Village), and my new mentor Mrs. Caroline( Field Elementary School).
(c) Provide a digital spreadsheet (aka log of the 30 hours)

 Explanation of what you completed.

I did additional 30 hours of my mentorship with my original mentor Ms. Genesis Rodriguez. While their i actually completed my mentorship altogether. My responsibility while completing these hours were to be an teachers aid to Ms Genesis. This including passing out snacks, teaching the class a few times, getting supplies, reading to the students, helping her help them to learn and write their name, tracing and counting skills. While completing my mentorship I called local preschools and found one that me come there to volunteer as well.  Tuesday was my last day at Woodbury Preschool Village. :( While with Mrs. Caroline I've completed around 8 hours. There I help assist her with helping the children do science, math, art, reading and outside play. I'm finding myself learning more on how to affectively structure a classroom and add play to the curriculum.

The things I explained in my literal section because I learned some value information while helping.  I am current;y still helping students finish their mask and helping me Mrs. Caroline prepare them for their culture day performance. I learned how important having classroom management is. My hours are also apart of my mentorship so that's another reason why it demonstrates 3o hours work . I also feel it's justifiable considering the fact I started volunteering at two places.

How did the component help you answer your EQ or support one or more of your answers.  Please include specific examples to illustrate how it helped.

This component helped me answer my E.Q because I had the chance to be more hands on as to the other one. I also had the luxury of seeing two completely different teaching styles. At Field Elementary they really helped me answer my E.Q even though I've only been their a short while. I've had the chance to be an aid to a child and watch him/her not have great motor skills. This is how I actually came up with my first answer watching him struggle and become frustrated.

Blog 19: Senior Project and ESLRs

1.  What ESLR have you excelled in most in your senior project?
The eslrs I have excelled most in while doing my senior project are effective learner, and effective communicator.

2.  Please explain why you think you have excelled in this ESLR.
I chose these two because over this past year I saw a big change in myself in the way I act, communicate and take responsibility for my actions. An example of me being a effective learner is when I do not understand something I ask for help immediately, in past years I would have just stayed quiet. Effective communicator because communication is key , Im always in contact with Mrs. Ortega in regards to my senior project.
3.  Provide evidence from your senior project to support your claim (evidence is a photo of something you are doing, photo of something you made, etc).

I chose these pictures because demostrate both the above elsrs I chose.

This one shows how I had to effectively tell the kids
to read a book for quiet and make sure they followed
the rules.

Effective communicator the kids and                                                                        I to communicate effectively in building a sand castle this also meant I had to be an effective learner. Since I knew how to do all ready I had to learn to do it there way.

Blog 15: Independent Component 2 Plan Approval

Independent Component 2 Plan Approval

(1) Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.
For this independent component I'm planning on continuing to volunteer at Woodbury Preschool Village and in addition to that take an Childhood development course at Mt. Sac, which focuses on Language arts and Media for young children.
(2) Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.
I plan to meet the 30 hour work requirement by going to the class twice a week along with volunteering the other two days. The class alone is 18 hours of lecture time, so to get the last 12 i would go and volunteer at Woodbury Preschool Village.

(3) How does your independent study component relate to your working EQ?
My independent study component relates to my working E.Q because my EQ is: How can a Preschool best help a child prepare for Kindergarten, So the class will help because it's about Language arts and media aspect of my EQ i say this because they both can play a major part in how a preschool can best help a child. My volunteer services at Woodbury Preschool Village helps because I can get an in depth look on how there preschool program works and talk to parents of former children that went their and track their success at leaving and entering Kindergarten to see if they were actually more prepared than children that didn't go there.

           Literal
a). I Emani affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
b). The sources that helped me complete my independent component were my Mentors Genesis and Yessenia at  Woodbury Preschool Village, Books: You Me Us, which went in depth with explaining how Preschool is suppose to help a child with developing social, motor, cognitive, and language skills, another book was the Montessori Method, from this book I learned how they feel Preschool should be shaped, this then allowed me to compare and contrast Montessori, Public, and Private Preschools.
c). https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgRlije4fFfMdGthT05qWGh5S0EzR3FRdGN2eE1BUkE&usp=sharing

d).  I was a volunteer at Woodbury Preschool Village. I was in was in charge of assistingthe kids with reading, learning to write, art's and crafts ect.

             Interpretive
My completion of my 30 hours consisted of going to Woodbury Preschool Village on Tuesday's and Thursday's. once there I would assist the kids with reading, learning to write, art's and crafts, putting there shoes on, helping with snack, being able to teach a class by myself twice, assisting the kids with going to bathroom, helping decorate the classroom, giving my input to my mentors on if this would be a good lesson or not, helping with cognitive skills, and by being an extra aid to my mentors.

                            Applied

This component helped me to understand the foundation of my topic better because going into my Senior Project I thought being a preschool teacher wasn't that hard of a job at all. I thought ok you teach kids not too hard. With my reading and volunteering I quickly learned it was more complicated than I thought. From rude parents and kid's not listening to learning how little Preschool teachers make. The component helped me to become more knowledgeable on the basics of early childhood education/preschool and allowed me to first hand how challenging the job can be. I was also given the time to examine if I truly want to go into this profession or not.
