Blog 10 ( Senior Project Update)

  Senior Project Update

(1) What are you currently doing in your independent component?

I am currently doing more research and prepping to start collecting data for the Science fair I should have the data in about a week or two. I've also been writing in and updating my science fair journal.

(2) What is a recent piece of research (article, interview, or audio-visual) that have you reviewed you would say was significant in helping you understand where to go next in your senior project?  The piece of research should be something you reviewed in November.  Please explain what you learned and where are you going next because of this piece of research.

The piece of research that I reviewed and helped me to get a little bit further in my Senior Project was an article Posted in the New York Times called : When should a child be ready for Kindergarten, In this article I learned a child is deemed ready / eligible when they can rationally differentiate between fruit and money, I also learned that in the 15 and 16th century children were deemed eligible when they could act rational. This is where the Idea of the Birthday? Birth year came to existence from these principles of the people from the 15th and 16th century.

(3) Provide evidence from your independent component or the piece of research as something you recently did.  For example, a photo of something you working on for your independent component or your notes from the video you watched.  http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/03/magazine/03kindergarten-t.html?adxnnl=1&pagewanted=all&adxnnlx=1354338076-/tjsNInLLu7vb2FSjOnFNg

Independent Component 1 Approval

(1) Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.

I plan to continue volunteering at Woodbury Preschool Village, possibly enrolling in a child development class along with observing other preschool programs. I hope to gain knowledge and insight into my career choice of childhood development or a  pediatric registered nurse.

(2) Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.

I plan to reach the 30 hour requirement by continuing to volunteer, enrolling in a childhood development class and observing other preschools.

(3) How does your independent study component relate to your working EQ?

Although I have yet to decide on an EQ., my independent component will relate to my learning experience which is how to better prepare a child for Kindergarten.

Blog 4: Project Reflection and Working EQ

The Pentagon:

(1) Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?

One positive thing that has happened to me is I learned to be assertive and take charge.

(2) EQ Content:  Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?

The research has been very helpful in understanding my topic. The biggest help to me though was my first interview, I say this because my mentor Genesis gave me a list of books to read and advice on taking courses.

(3) What has worked for you so far in the senior project?

Finding a mentor and gaining the kids trust.

(4) What hasn't worked so far?

There's not really a lot of research on my topic
(5) Finding Value:  Based on your experience so far,

  •  What possible question or questions come to mind regarding what you would like to studythis year (don't list questions about the instructions relating to the senior project)?
  • How will this apply to my life in understanding Childhood development and myself ?  If I stick to this project in college will this knowledge be beneficial?
  •  What is your end goal this year with your senior project (don't say get a good grade or gain knowledge, put specific things you want to accomplish in your senior project this year)
The end result for me would be to get a paying job with the school and continue this   project and hopefully one day become a preschool teacher in the near future.
  • Who would you like to talk to you next? Why?
  • I would like to talk to different preschool teachers at different schools, this is because every school and classroom is ran differently.  Another reason is because I want to be as educated as I can be in my topic.

I also chose to interview her because she can give me information and additional resources to help me fulfill my senior project, to my best of my ability.

2). I plan to ask follow up questions such as if you could pick any other career would you do it? How long have you been teaching? Whats the hardest thing about being a teacher?

Blog 2: Topic Choice

                                         Topic Choice

A).My topic is the advantages of quality preschool learning I chose this topic because I'm interested in known the statistics, another reason is because in the future I plan to be a preschool teacher, so I want a head start in learning how to make sure of success when they enter Kindergarten.

B). iPoly citizen: I plan to educate the students and parents of iPoly on the importance of  a quality preschool or preschool in general.
Effective Communicator: I plan to educate myself and others by interviewing teachers,   my mentor and reading books, articles, and doing research. I can teach and have evidence to back me up so i can then communicate the importance of a quality preschool education.
This will make me a more effective learner because I will be more understanding of the importance of a quality preschool and more factual when people ask me why or how do I know.
Effective user of Technology: I plan on observing my mentor closely as she teaches the kids, doing research, and going to several different preschool and view the curriculum and see how they compare and contrast.

      Blog 1:  Summer Mentorship Component

         (Literal Know)

     Name of Mentor:  Genesis
     Business:  Woodbury Preschool Village
     Contact Number:  (626) 794-3211
     Total hours:  21
      Mentorship Log
 Literal (need to know)

  • What is the best way to deal with a preschooler
  • What is the best teaching method when teaching a combined class.
  • What is the most difficult thing about teaching a mixed class.

 Interpretive

The most important thing I gained from this experience is that early preschool learning is beneficial at a early age.  I say this because the youngest which is two years old is experiencing reading, writing, articulation, other languages , and counting skills.

Applied

I discovered how important  and effective quality preschool will be in the later years.
